Round up of last few weeks…

Soft start

We now have a digital/STEM station for soft start. The children are beginning to code using Beebot the bee and Cody the Code-a-pillar. P2s are practising logging onto the Chromebooks independently and are even trying to access websites! This week, to link with our work on senses, we have been exploring a website called ‘Incredibox’. The website is a fun way to explore beat and rhythm.Kapla is still a firm favourite…

Writing

We have finished our unit on ‘Cecil the Spider’ and I was thrilled with the independent stage of writing: where the children wrote their own versions. The children were using our ‘toolbox’ display to help them in their writing. We have started a new unit on ‘Owl Babies’ and have made up actions and a story map so far. We are working on retelling the story at the moment. Why don’t you ask your child to give you a wee preview?

Numeracy

We have been continuing our work on number sequences and ordering and writing numbers. Some children have begun rounding numbers to 100 and we are still working away on our place value. We have been trying really hard with our skip counting (2s and 10s in p1 and 5s, 10s, 3s and 4s in p2).We have also been very busy working on multiplication. I’m very impressed with the variety of strategies the children are using to work out multiplication problems. All children are now solving multiplication problems without materials! πŸŒŸπŸ‘

PE

We have been enjoying PE with primary 1 this term and have been doing gymnastics. We have been working on balancing, rolling and travelling skills. We have also had the wall bars out the last few weeks! Woohoo!

Science

We have been learning about the human body the last few weeks. We started by looking at baby and toddler photos and discussing how our bodies have changed since we were born.We then took a closer look at the body and p1s discussed and named body parts while p2s looked at major organs and the skeleton. We then moved onto senses. We had a fun lesson where we had to guess the picture from a tiny clue, guess the smell and guess what was hidden in a bag by touch. Great hilarity! 🀣 We also had a taste test.We went outside on a sensory walk and also enjoyed listening to and discussing a variety of genres of music. Turns out there is quite a few Dolly Parton fans in the class! 🎀🎢
